8th Daisaku Ikeda Annual Lecture - Securing Peace in Asia for the next 25 years

Attended the above talk today; at SSA HQ.

Speaker: Prof Jørgen Ørstrøm Møller (Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies)
Chairman: Dr Vivian Balakrishnan (Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports)
Organised by: Singapore Soka Association

A very enriching and enjoyable talk I will say; one of the more entertaining ones I had been to. The speaker gave a 'chim' talk (in the words of Dr. Bala)...will say didn't manage to catch all the points, but some of the things pointed out are social capital and economic integration.. The Q n A was especially those there will definitely agree, interesting questions, sensitive ones; it's a battle of wits and words.ha

but one thing that Prof Møller said during the Q n A when someone ask wad youths can do for peace rang a bell in me. he talked about in europe where youths go to another university in another country for exchange, to improve ties between countries. Isn't that wad Mr. Ikeda is being doing? to allow Chinese students to come Soka U for exchange to know more about each other? and how he invited Chinese performers to Min-on for cultural exchange?

Dr. Balakrishnan is also a gd chairperson, though it was supposed to be his 'off-day' (no need to give speech as he always will need to), he still gave his profound insight on some of the questions (mostly the more govt or politically related ones)..but can really see he is a very amicable person, and from his ans, he has high hopes on the youths in singapore.

but think ultimately, wad i think i learn/feel, peace still begins with the transformation of the self

Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits

Finallyyyy got the chance to have a taste of Popeyes. Went to the outlet at Changi Airport Terminal 3 (Basement 2). It was packed but luckily got seats pretty fast.

Ordered the 2 piece chicken meal for $6.90. Comes with a drink, 2 pieces of chicken (of course), fries and supposedly a buttermilk biscuit. But our biscuits were replaced by mashed potato and cajun gravy 'cos they didn't have biscuits anymore.

Chicken:
Has a faint resemblance to the chicken from KFC. Skin was crispy but the meat for mine was a bit too oily.

Mashed potato and Cajun gravy:
very nice!! gravy has a tinge of spicyness, with seasoning blend of dried onion and garlics and more of which I can't make out what they are. Should be more generous with gravy though, was rather dry towards the end.

No picture of the fries, but they were good too. Well battered in spices. My favourite fries are Long John Silver's fries and I think Popeyes wins it now. haha.

Happy with the meal overall, only tiny disappointment was that I didn't get to try out the biscuit

Tony Roma's

Patronized KL Mid-Valley Megamall's Tony Roma's

I had Ribeye steak set meal for RM57.60 (~SGD24.30). Rather worth it
Huge glass of Coca Cola (refillable somemore!)

I forgot the name of the soup. Had slices of beef which were very soft and tender



Has a layer of oil on the surface but too famished to care. lol.


soup came with ultra-thin biscuits


Complimentary bread served as well. Didn't eat it but the rest said it was nice - crispy crust


My steak well-done. Haven't eaten steak for ages, so no comments on it. Fries were delicious. Salad had a weird sourish taste.


Medium-rare steak looks less "shrunken"

Meal was overall very filling and satisfying!

nightmare...

was supposed to go rest, but i suppose i will finish this post else many ppl will ask me question

went for the 1st ahm training.

mistake 1: to accept this challenge. lol, seriously i can't run long distance. 2.4km is nv endurance. even it is it is short term. so the thing is .. I can't run. yet i decide to take up this challenge. riteee

mistake 2: was supposed to meet ecp carpark b1 today. actually i checked e map, it say 1.2km from the mac. 1.2 is far, yet i refused to go by taxi.. well, was thinking 1st time go, shd take taxi and see how. but in the end, i still refused. basically i only get $10 to go there. paying more is crap. hence i took 966. e bus is fast but not fast enuff. took like 50 min to reach marine parade. i got down 1 stop late (cos nv see dao nan) but even so e walk to the Mac is far. reached mac late. n i got a 1.2km to go. but i feel its more than 1.2km. crap. i walk like 10 min, then sorta got lost. ask ard, then saw a sign which says carpark b1. 800m :S:S

but maybe it's 800m road distance, which is longer than if i took e running path. and e 1.2km is most prob displacement. :S . oh ya in e end i still have to call the master WO to ask e route and say i will be late.. n i reached like close to 8 when we supposed to meet at 715 :S:S. sigh.. i nv like to be late. luckily the MWO is nice...

anyway i was like running to find e carpark, reach there i already sweating like mad, n well tired. i m so weak. then warm up start. n i saw on the MWO shirt. 'commandos' ... ok after warm up it's actual running.. how far? 50 min. 25 min then turn back

gosh. my 2.4km is only at most 10 min torture. this 50min.

and i couldn't keep up their pace, end up lagging behind..and well, heck end up walking liao cos chest pain. worse till when i making the return route, ji tao just want to vomit, but well just walk back...and run a bit at the back.. end up returning like 15min later.

n actually we are actually training with the other active ahm runners going 21km...
n they are hoping for 45 min for 10km, which is like 10min or less for 2.4? gosh...


and next sat supposed to have another run at the same place. :s. fear strikes. seriously i'm past the peak for what endurance training and things. but well, I have time on my hand. it's up to me to put in more effort for personal training before next sat...

but then next sat i have cic meeting 12pm at tbsc. struggle...

AHM..

received a call today from selerang camp, my div..

invited me to represent e div for AHM. tt's rather funny. probably they see my ippt gold all e way (except for this year, well, I'm still trying to find e unlaziness to train to get gold this time round). anw, they still say i will be paid to join. i wonder wad does e paid means. free run tt is i suppose? or at most i get my half a day allowance pay, but well, the taxi to go to the venue will be more than tt already

but anw, doubt they know; though i get ippt gold, i nv ran more than 5km before? time to train...

BBQ Seafood @ Tampines Round Market & Food Centre

Went all the way to Tampines to try out another stall from Buzzing Cashier <<抢摊大行动>> again. This time it was BBQ Seafood.

BBQ Stingray

The chilli was not a single bit spicy. The meat was very tough too. Normally when you eat stingray, the meat is so soft that once you poke it, the chopsticks sink in right? But this one, had a hard time tearing the meat off.

Bean Sauce La La

My first time trying lala in bean sauce. Usually it's lala in sambal. Not too bad a taste. The sauce blended well with the lala and no 腥味 could be detected.

Had kangkong with cuttlefish and sambal sotong too. But too hungry to continue taking photos.

Taste n.c @ Golden Mile Food Complex

Tried out this stall from the Buzzing Cashier <<抢摊大行动>> series. Given 5 signatures by the chefs. The recommended dishes are BBQ Pork Ribs, Seafood Spagetti and Oglio Aglio Spagetti. Didn't go for the spagetti as $4.50 for a plate was not too appealing.

Verdict:

Pork ribs didn't taste good with the sauce used. All 5 tasters agreed. Salad tasted normal to me but the rest gave thumbs-up to it.

Won't be going back for more I guess, but you may check it out @
